Little Green Dragon, Winchmore Hill, N21

This is a classic shop converted (well, hairdressers converted to be precise) micro pub that has been fitted out to a pretty high standard, foregoing the basic furnishing spec that most micro pubs seem to opt for, in favour of a much more comfortable approach. Whilst a few high tables and stools can be found to the front left, these soon give way to a well upholstered banquette which extends back as far as the servery which is in the rear left corner. Over to the right, some even comfier looking banquette booths can be found under the front windows, with sofas further along and finally what appeared to be old bus seats as you get closer to the bar. Padded kegs are also available to add to the seating options as and when required. The servery is a very basic, small counter with a large beer board behind it - nothing more complicated is required, as all the beers are served directly from a temperature controlled tap room out the back. The bar area has been decorated with pump clips, as you'd expect, whilst elsewhere you can spot a cuddly toy stag's head, local message board and various train themed items. Beyond the bar, there is a very narrow passageway with drinking ledges and high stools on either side, where more pump clips reside, next to a framed jigsaw of the original Green Dragon pub which this place's name references. A window here looks through to the taproom, whilst a door leads out to an unexplored beer garden and there was a big stack of board games piled up to the rear. The pub offers four ales at any given time, with options on this occasion comprising New River London Tap and Isle of Rye, Beerblefish ESB and Mighty Oak Oscar Wilde Mild, with a wide selection of ciders also available. The barman here was very friendly and knowledgeable, helping several customers pick out something that might suit their taste and bringing a number of orders directly over to people's tables. I tried the Mild and London tap, both of which were excellent and I was rather loathe to have to leave and catch my train home, so easy was it to settle down for a session in here. I really liked this place and thought it was one of the best micro pubs I've been to. I really liked the efforts made to make the place feel properly comfortable and cosy, even if that meant losing out on a bit of space as a result. The beer quality was worthy of the pub's title as CAMRA Greater London Pub of the Year 2018 and the service was top notch too. I'd definitely recommend a trip out here and whilst this isn't a part of town I find myself in often, I will be looking for excuses to make my way back out here for another visit.

This micro has been well planned out and I guess the owner has taken some design ideas and features, from the various one hundred micro pubs he visited on his marathon bike ride around Kent. This micro also supports local microbreweries, which was evident from their beer list, on our visit. I initially went for the New River London Tap, which was a good idea as it soon ran out. I also found this micro to have a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, so I would happily visit again.

Steve of N21 gives a very accurate description ,I really enjoyed my visit here.There are various seating options and I liked the former bus bench seats and upturned casks with comfy cushions.There is a large cool room behind the small bar and on my trip the ale selection was Animal (XT) Golden Dragon,New River Pumped Up,Pig & Porter Red Spider and Blackbird Stout while New River London Tap ran out in mid session.All ales sampled were in great nick.There were a couple of keg options and a wide choice of other libations. No screens,muzak,machines make this a very calm place to drink ,it's in the GBG and has won CAMRA awards,quite rightly so.A must visit when in Winchmore Hill.

This was opened by a local CAMRA member who did a cycle tour of around 100 micropubs back in 2015. There is a box file containing pictures of that epic journey. It seems incredible that his tour included all existing the micropubs at the time. It's a proper micropub with no TV or music and currently no keg offerings. It's a fairly typical size with a wood laminate floor and mixed seating. There is a bar counter but no hand pumps as beer and cider is served on gravity from the cold room behind. There are a few specialist gins available. The four beers available on my visit were Hammerton Blank Slate, Farr Blacklist Black IPA, Enefield Chocolate Vanilla Porter and Dancing Duck Ay-Up. I went for the Black Slate (£3.40), the Enefield Porter (£3.80) and the dry cider (£3.80). Prices quoted were before CAMRA discount which I think was only 20p but I may be wrong. All were excellent. It's not the easiest of places to get to but there are a couple of buses outside. I thought it was a great place and will definitely try and return.

This small real ale bar which opened on August 27th takes its name from the now sadly gone but much loved (by those of us who used to frequent it during the 70’s when it was a cracking multi bar pub) larger original Green Dragon round the corner at 889 Green Lanes. Converted from a former shop, internally this Micro pub has plenty of exposed brick and minimalist décor to give it the feel of modern micro bars, with some bench and settee seating along one wall and stool and table seating along the other. And “little” is an apt description as a dozen people is quite a crowd in here. Four ales poured directly from the cask are served with at least one being a local ale and these were Enefeld Meridian Pale Ale, Wantsum More’s Head and Turbulent Priest and Five Points Brewery Railway porter for my inaugural visit. Then there’s a fridge with a collection of craft beer cans and bottles and I spotted a few from Five points and Beavertown available. The price levels of between £3.40 and £3.80 a pint are very reasonable for the area and the Railway Porter was spot on. No food is available but there are bar snacks including pickled eggs. This is a very welcome addition to the local N21 drinking scene, especially as it is the first modern micropub to open in the Enfield and Barnet area and I wish it and its owner Richard Reeve success and longevity.
