Stumble Inn, Northallerton

Decent micro-pub in an pedestrianised shopping alley, with a 'L'-shaped seating area around the compact counter plus a few small tables out on the pavement. Limited decor, as you might expect, but with the focus on beer and conversation, this is hardly an issue. Six real ales on handpump, plus another on gravity from the cool room, all priced by strength, with three from Rudgate including the experimental Brew No 33 (£3.30).

A micro-pub tucked away in an arcade off the long high street. Six pulls with three in use on my visit, mostly beers from the excellent Helmsley Brewing and very well kept in fact the best during a multi-pub stagger round the county town. Roughly L shaped with the counter near the front and an area to the side, furnishing is traditional pub with britannia tables and bench seating. It's fairly typical of the breed for Yorkshire and probably takes pole position in a town of fairly ordinary pubs.

One L-shaped room with the bar in the right angle. List of beers on the wall. Decent selection of which I had Titanic Stout. Friendly barman who served me even though he was off shift. Worth a return in in the area.
