Bird House Tap Room, Herne Hill, SE24

This railway arch brewery seems to have changed a bit since the previous review. Still the home of the Birdhouse Brewery, but now spread over two arches, one being a main bar with the beer taps with information boards behind and the other being more focussed on cocktails and wine from what I could see. Unless I was looking in the wrong place the brewing kit has been moved elsewhere and both spaces have a very modern decor and seem to turn more into a nightclub late in the evening. Opens at 4.00pm during the week and I was one of the first in and chose to take my beer to one of the outside tables. This is a nice outside space but you do feel you are drinking in a corridor as people walk past to get to the other businesses further up the railway arches. Keg offerings only and their in house pale ale I tried was perfectly fine, but I did get a feeling that this one is targeted more as an entertainment venue for the young upwardly mobile demographic of Herne Hill and surrounds rather than a tap room for beer drinkers, and as brewery arch tap rooms go I personally much preferred the Bullfinch Brewery Tap a further five minutes down the railway line as a more traditional railway arch brewery to enjoy a beer in.
