The Stable Bar, Bridgnorth

We sat in the courtyard for our visit and didn't see much of the inside. Exactly the same beer choice as the Atrium up the road - HPA, Town Crier, Butty Bach and Enville. The 2 we tried were fine.

I'm afraid my impression of this bar behind the Kings Head was more in line with Alan's review than Ray's. I approached it with optimism, spurred on by signs saying it was the home of Bridgnorth Brewery, which was a new one for me (not that I'm ticking breweries, you understand, just that I didn't know what their beers were like and was looking forward to finding out). Pale and bland, unfortunately, was the answer. Before entering the bar, there's an outdoors bar, advertising cocktails but featuring numerous keg fonts and hand pumps, with three or four outdoor heaters melting the glaciers in Greenland for the benefit of no one in particular, as I was the only customer at the time of my lunchtime visit. I entered the main bar room, a long narrow affair with uncomfortable seats and two sets of six hand pumps. The beers on the first were all pale, according to the sample jars placed next to them and confirmed by the barman when I commented as such - so I assumed the other six had the same beers (see photos). The least pale was Bridgnorth Best Bitter, an attempt at something similar to Hobsons, I would guess, but it was pretty insipid by comparison. There was some ghastly pop music playing, so I decided to go back out into the courtyard but they'd already thought of that and there was another loudspeaker out there too. And nowhere comfortable to sit either. This must be where all the cool people of Bridgnorth come, I thought to myself before sinking the remains of my forgettable beer and going off to console myself with the purchase of half a dozen bottles of porters and milds from Tanners Wine on the High Street.

The Stables Bar is to the rear of the Kings Head and was probably a part of it years ago. There is plenty of outside seating which seemed popular as there were those heaters on the go. Once inside there is a narrow room which runs the width of the pub,the bar faces on entry,the floor is tiled,the seating is very uncomfortable in being perch like seating with tall tables which face the bar,i would not like to sit at these for a while. There is a dining room upstairs. There was a decent choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Bridgnorth River Steam,which was a decent drink,the other real ales noted were Bridgnorth Kings Escape,Wye Valley HPA,Three Tuns XXX. We took an instant dislike to this place,full of posh twats and very uncomfortable seating. Pub visited 29/4/2017
