Howling Hops Tank Room, E9

'The UK's First Dedicated Tank Bar' description is a good place to start, with ten such vessels stood (vertically, unusually) behind the counter and no other taps. The bar itself is a fairly industrial affair, set in the ground floor of a former warehouse near the River Lea Navigation, with ranks of canteen-style tables. Further seating is available out in the yards on two sides. Back to the beer, and there was a good selection of styles - including my Shadow Boxing brown ale (£6.50) - and thankfully not at the silly strengths and prices you sometimes get in places like this.

The Tank room is quite roomy but dominated by the ten large tanks behind the bar, nine were serving on my visit and I was so impressed with the first beer I had to stay for another. If you're into craft beer you can't go wrong with this place.
