The Hedgeford Lodge (JD Wetherspoon), Cannock

Visited in April around lunch time on a weekday. Two banks of six hand pulls at the bar but they seemed to be duplicated. The guests were Titanic Raspberry Pale and Titanic Plum Porter. There was also something by Lymestone clipped but it wasn't listed on the app so not sure if this was actually on. This is a big building with lots of rooms, very sprawling. The more grand rooms have big windows and let in a lot of light; the rest is a bit darker and gloomy by comparison. Toilets are upstairs in classic Spoons style, and there is a large beer garden to the front with plenty of tables. Pleasant enough.

An 1831 'Lodge' built by Edmund Peel (Robert's brother) as house and stable point for horses close to the Hednesford Hills and the training grounds. Later a hotel. Has interesting stacks and crow-stepped gables. The interior is a warren of wood panelled rooms with some nod given to the area's horse racing past. TVs and bandit machines dotted about and I have eaten here in the past - usual stuff. Service is fine and the place has usually rammed on the few times I have been - with the usual Spoon's mix. Has a better choice of beers than some Spoons - the Titanic Coffee Stout was decent, even if it did lose its head a little quick.
