Brooksteed Alehouse, Worthing

Whilst I'm not a connoisseur or collector of micropubs, I can recognise that this is a superior example of the genre. Money has clearly been spent here and they've come up with a comfortable, well-appointed room that actually does feel recognisably pubby, rather than former shoppy. The Brooksteed attracts a good crowd with the clientele managing to go beyond the CAMRA stereotype, although the local branch has awarded it a Pub of the Year honour. On my visit, service was friendly with advice and tasters both freely given as I weighed up the two pale ales I fancied (from a selection of 5 or so - not all of them pale). The beer was of excellent quality, gravity dispensed from the cold room behind the bar (yes, there was almost a bar here). In addition to the ale, a good selection of modern craft in cans and bottles was available. The main drawback is that there is just a single lavatory so you may need to plan the timing of your onward journey around the limited opportunities for relief here.

Just a couple of minutes walk from Worthing station is this gem of a place, fantastic choice of cask ales and bottled beers from around the globe. Great service and you can try any of the real ales before you decide your choice, if your lucky enough to get a table they bring your drinks to your table. As I regularly travel from Littlehampton to Worthing for a drink I'll be making this my first port of call in future.

This was my fourth and final micropub of the day. Situated a short distance North of the level crossing just to the West of Worthing station this former hairdressers that opened in September 2014 is a larger and a bit more pubby micropub than some. It's a square room with a small counter on the right behind which is the cold room. On my late Saturday afternoon visit there was a fair crowd in and there were five beers going, not from Sussex but from various parts of the country. These were Stancill's Barnsley Bitter, XT Number 2, Pheasantry Porter, Brewsmith IPA and a beer from First Chip in Salford that I didn't manage to note down. I went for the Brewsmith's IPA (£3.60) which was in excellent nick. For me this was another great micropub and very handy for the station. Currently the opening hours are closed Monday: 11:30-14:00 and 17:00-21:30 Tue-Sat: 11:30-14:00 Sunday.
