The Napoli, Leek

The Napoli is an open plan pizza restaurant with a large red brick pizza oven and serving station midway along the right-hand wall. There is a small bar area with a short counter and armchair seating at the front and then a sea of dining tables run to the rear where an enormous bookcase sits against the rear wall. This place was near then end of a recent Tuesday crawl through Leek so I think it was a bookcase and not just bookcase patterned wallpaper. I didn’t feel very welcome when I walked in, I think the waitress was disappointed when I said I was just coming in for a beer. The service from the bar was very friendly though, and fortunately a couple left a table just as I was served so I had somewhere to sit. Brooklyn Lager, San Miguel and Poretti were the keg options, but there was no cask with one hand pumps unused and the other displaying an unavailable ale, I assume just for show. It made a change having a drink somewhere like this, but it’s not somewhere I’d visit just for a beer again.

The Napoli is really an Italian restaurant with a specialisation in pizzas cooked in a wood fired brick oven. Having said that, there is a distinct bar and drinking area as well as a warm welcome for those who just want a beer. Mr. F's description below needs no additions but I'd simply reiterate that the policy here is to always have one Marble beer available and on our visit the Earl Grey IPA was superb. The atmosphere here is fun and friendly due in no small part to the delightful staff and owner and I wish them every success. A cracking little place where I'd happily return to indulge in whichever Marble beer they have on or bring the family for a meal or, better still, both.
