The Butcher's Hook, Southampton

Another Southampton micro, a short bus ride from the station. Basic interior though there’s nice Victorian wall tiling and a nice view of the church. The toilets are rather different to the usual in terms of porcelain décor (see pic). No bar as such and amusement provided by the vertically challenged barmaid having to use steps to reach some the beers. Two stillaged cask available amongst a sea of keg, one of which was 9.5% (Salted Dark Chocolate Mills & Hills (2024) by Fyne Ales), so of course I had that and very nice it was too (NBSS 3.5). On further perusal of the menu I noted that the beer was selection was really interesting and well sourced, so I decided to top-up with a half of the Lambic & Stout from keg. Well-worth making the effort to get over here if you are a beer hunter. 8.5

Didn't get around to reviewing this after my January visit,It was of course as Ray found it in Apri except the young girl was a bloke as well as the beers obviously being different, on my visit I drank Vibrant Forest Chinook and Unity This Must Be The Place, the name of the latter I found amusing as I found the pub not the easiest to find with no external signage evident. It was an enjoyable stay and I found the the place to have a good vibrant atmosphere, well attended on a Sunday afternoon.
