Annie's Burger Shack and Freehouse, Nottingham

Large, high ceilinged Georgian type pub with 2 areas and apparently a tavern downstairs. Emphasis is obviously from the name on burgers. Chilled hipster type place, bare brick, stripped tables, hops on the windows. Looks like it is catering for a youth (student) market (though the price of the burgers must mean these students are supported well). I may have been at a quiet time judging from reviews below as there was plenty of space. Won't be everybody's taste but I found it a really good mix. 7-8 real ales of very good quality and choice. As Alan well describes, this is a very busy place, even on a Monday eve when we pop in around 9pm the place was packed. We also noticed their 10 hand pumps and tried the Blue Monkey Ape Ale and an Abbeydale Surreal. Prices were also steep at £3.50 a pint.

This is a new pub that is in an old building in the heart of the Lace Market area. Once inside there is one very large oblong shaped room with a bar in the middle dividing the room into two halfs,the right side has normal tables and chairs and seems more of a drinking area,the left side has bench seating to the far left and normal tables and chairs,there is an open kitchen to the rear of this area. There are 10 pumps on the bar in two banks of 5 all on the right side,i had a drink of Whim Arbour Light whch went down very well,the other beers i noted were Nottingham EPA,Blue Monkey Scarlet Chimpernel,Rudgate Ruby Mild and kelham Pale Rider,there were more beers but the bar was too busy to see them. There were small jars with each beer in front of the pump to see what colour it was. The pub was packed on my Saturday afternoon visit with most people scoffing burgers,it was very noisy with all people chatting. I would have prefered to visit this pub at a quieter time and have a proper look at what beers were on,but they must be doing a good job with it being so busy,so good luck to them.
