Smugglers Inn, Holcombe, Dawlish

Less of a pub and more of a big roadside carvery-based nosh pit. Not much to write home about inside as the cavernous interior is mainly set for dining. However if you take a seat in the rear decked area you are rewarded with wonderful views through the valley towards the water(see pics). GBG-listed which is why we stopped off - three pumps with St Austell Trewlany (good nick), something marked ‘Legend’ and Teignworthy. Friendly service at the otherwise faceless and functional bar. Overall it’s worth a stop for a sunny day but I wouldn’t come just to drink inside. Difficult to rate as a pub, really. I’ll be generous with an overall 7 as the beer, service and view were all very nice.
