Unusual Spoons (2011 opener) which you can access from an entrance up a tight alley. Quite a warren inside giving-off the impression of being a number of subsumed buildings which gives it character. Neatly decorated which stops the darkness further back from being gloomy, as mentioned below. Just two guest cask and one was off. Deciding I couldn’t stomach the Elgoods I did get offered an Abbot (NBSS 3) by way of apology without having to do the price differential, which was a good bit of customer service.

Quite an interesting conversion / amalgamation / extension of at least three different buildings, an arrangement that is reflected internally between the various different seating / dining areas. Quite dark (although not gloomy) inside, but there is also a modest patio area at the back. Two banks of five handpumps, but fully duplicated so the selection of Ruddles, Doom Bar and Abbot plus Rev James (£1.99) and Post Horn from Coach House hardly set the pulse racing.

This one dates from Spring 2011 and was converted from a wine bar although the entire site is a conversion of two warehouses and two houses. Inside it's a roughly rectangular split level room with better than average fixtures and furnishings. The bar has two sets of five hand pumps which had the JDW Trio Of Doom doubled up, Adnam's Belgian Blond, Caledonian Edinburgh Castle, Firehouse Northway IPA and Black Horse Nicholas De Luda. I went for the Nicholas De Luda which was in great nick, especially considering it's a Xmas beer in late January. I found this to be a good Spoons which is also GBG 2017 listed.
