The Head of Steam, Headingley, Leeds

The Head of Steam is a pub that looks like it is housed in a modern building situated just off the Otley road. Once inside there is a square shaped room with the bar on the left side,there are tall tables and chairs near the bar,the right side of the room is up two steps,the seating here is bench type and normal tables and chairs,there is another room upstairs which i did not look at,the pub seemed quite smart in my opinion. There was a decent choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Roosters Highway Fifty One which went down well,the other beers noted were Taylor Ram Tam,Camerons Gold Bullion,Camerons Ale copolys now and one from Sonnet that i failed to note properly. There is another room upstairs,the background music was decent. I quite liked this pub. Pub visited 16/7/2016

The old Havana bar is no more and is now the latest addition to the Head of Steam chain . Opened 04.04.16.

The name should tell you what to expect, uber modern in everything; white walls, exposed brick, a wall displaying victorian rain hoppers, another with garden furniture fixed to it and some big saws in a cage. Furniture is a mix of tables and chairs in dark and light wood, the tables stand on aluminium pedestals and have those numbered wooden spoons which are probably a bit dated now. Fellow customers on my saturday afternoon visit were some emaciated women and their children at one table and a group of gay men at another, a couple of gay men sat on low seats at the other end of the room. The counter is to one side at the back and hosts the usual keg range apart from something called Mahou which i've not come across before, a few bottles of Leeds Pale lurked in the fridge. Possibly it gets more interesting after sundown, and it looks like live music is on sometimes.
