The Toad In The Hole, Worthing

The Castle was the second pub on my crawl of Worthing on Saturday afternoon so I must have arrived just after midday. Alas it was closed and the opening times given in the door were 17:00 during the week, 18:00 on Saturdays and closed all day Sundays. I decided to make an effort to return later in the day and I managed to return at around 22:00. Thankfully the pub was open and there were a handful of locals sitting at the U shaped bar. Around to the left of the bar is a pool table and there was some music playing in the background. The draught was standard and one of the six hand pumps was unused leaving three brews from Dark Star, Hopback Brewery’s Summer Lightening and Old Rosie cider as the cask options. This is very much a local’s boozer, but I wasn’t made to feel unwelcome by the regulars and the service was polite. I’d have no problem returning for another pint if I happened to be passing during the restrictive opening hours.
