Prince of Wales, Congleton

I nearly passed on this one due to the Friday night karaoke but I gave it a go and sat at the bar. It was actually good fun but I’d like to come again on a calmer afternoon to appreciate the quaint interior. On the bar were a couple of Joules standards plus a new seasonal Blackberry Stout which was a bit underwhelming. I like Joules’ refurbishments a lot, but never totally convinced by the beer.

Visited back in March. The bar sports six hand pulls offering three ales duplicated - at the time of my visit I think these were Blonde, Slumbering Monk and Pale. As has been mentioned, from the front there are two different styles of building which gives the impression of two buildings being knocked into one. I went for the Slumbering Monk and it set me back £1.70 for a half. This is a traditional feeling old pub although you can never tell with Joules as they are great at making their buildings look olde worlde. The front room was fairly bare in terms of seating with various tables and stools dotted around; a further room had comfortable banquette seating. Dogs appear to be welcome, a beer garden was signposted, and snacks are available. The gents were a bit basic and smelly, but adequate.
