The Chequers, St. Albans

As noted previously, this premises is a former coaching inn, and the front part of the interior is all brick wall and dark, low beams. The bar area is towards the rear, down a couple of steps with the usual C&B white, black and grey colour scheme. Just GK IPA and something called Chequers Ale (a third pump was unclipped). The latter was inoffensive enough. You'd only likely visit here to eat, as that's their shtick - the ale seems to be a bit of a afterthought.

Part of the Chef and Brewer chain,situated in a very old coaching inn with many low beams ,nooks and crannies.After entering from the car park,there is a central island bar with three handpumps serving Wadsworth 6X,Adnams Bitter and London Pride ,a predictable range but OK.Food is the main focus,but you can just pop in for a drink.The furniture is in keeping with the period features and the pub is a pleasing stop.
