Large Beefeater outlet with a multi-room interior and the expected bland corporate furniture and decor. However, on the plus side, it does have an expansive front beer garden for use in decent weather. It also has real ale from two handpumps: 6X and Spitfire (£3.35) on this visit.

The Hilden Manor is a Beefeater located adjacent to a Premier Inn. Out the front is a large lawn that is dotted with a few picnic tables that were all taken yesterday afternoon by people enjoying a spell of sunshine. The interior consists of a small bar area to the left of the entrance where there is formulaic furniture and a large inglenook that acts as the only feature. To be honest I thought that the bar felt like the reception of the premier Inn and the piped nondescript music didn’t help matters. At the rear is a vast separate restaurant that was serving early dinner to a few diners. A quick glance at a menu informed me that the mains are priced around £11. The bar is stocked with standard draught and two hand pumps that were drawing Wadworth Brewery’s 6X and Shepherd Neame’s Spitfire. I decided to have half a Becks Vier that took an age to receive due to the barmaid disappearing to make a milkshake. When it did finally arrive it was flat as a pancake. Now I’ve been here I will not be returning in any great hurry.
