Community pub with dog friendly facilities. Large beer garden and car park which has the Old Sawley Brewing Company at the back. Range of Old Sawley beers on the bar, along with two guests and a selection of ciders, as well as larger commercial lagers etc. Large bar with plenty of seating, woodfired pizza made outside on weekends, pool table, darts, bar billiards available. Large function room available for hire.

The White Lion is a three storey stand alone pub that is situated quite close to the Nags Head. This pub used to be an Ansells tied house with horrible keg bitters on the bar,things have improved since my last visit here years ago. Once inside the pub still has two seperate rooms,i had a drink in the bar which is to the left,this had an L shaped room which ran to the rear,the seating was normal tables and chairs,the ceiling was beamed and there was a nice warm real fire on the go on my visit. The lounge to the right is similar to the bar with normal tables and chairs,this room is oblong in shape and runs the width ways,there was a bar billiards table in this room. There were 8 real ales on the bar with four in each room,there was an handy board behind the bar listing all beers available,i had a drink of Old Sawley Victory Bell which was a very nice darkish beer that is brewed on site,the other beers were Milestone Old English Ale,RCH Steam bitter,Blue Monkey BG Sips,White Horse Wayland Smithy and Bass. The pub was fairly busy on my late Saturaday afternoon vist with a decent bunch of drinkers. I quite liked this pub,my only small gripe was the lack of any bench seating. This pub is well worth a visit if in the area. Recent visit 23/11/2013

Now a real ale free house. Extensive overhaul of a local pub. No pool table or gaming machines. Bar billiards. Eight hand pumps, seven real ales and one cider. Local and more national brands on tap. Three real fires in the separate rooms. Large car park, fenced off grassed area. Beer of a high standard and staff always friendly.
