Sleepers Bar @ Great Northern Hotel, Peterborough

Very much an upmarket hotel bar, albeit set within a historic building directly opposite the main station entrance. Several small seating areas around the servery, all with modern leather chairs and sofas and rather bland decoration. On the plus side, there are three handpumps on the counter, and these were dispensing Rutland Osprey (£4.00) and the seasonal Calcutta from Grainstore plus Stony Ford's Sheepmarket Supernova Straw.

Typical expensive hotel prices but there was some decent real ale to be had. Handy for the train station.

This railway hotel gets good marks for its proximity to the station and for having three Grainstore beers on hand pump. Marks are lost for being too much like a hotel bar and not enough like a pub, in particular for charging £3.90 a pint. Admittedly it was a good beer, but at 50p a pint more than any other pub in town, it left a bad taste before boarding our train out of here. Date of visit: 5th December 2015
