Roast Ox Inn, Builth Wells

Food-dominated pub that is the only pub in the small village of Painscastle. I believe this pub has been closed for a good time, but we arrived to find a cat sat on the bar. Whether this is the same cat that was mentioned in the only previous review over 9 years ago, I'm not sure. But the cat did still seem to be alive! Butty Bach & Doom Bar are the ales here, whilst they also had a real cider, which was Weston's Family Reserve. Having had this already in nearby Builth Wells, I opted for the Robinson's Flagon cider instead. We were seated at the far right-hand end of the pub in an area adjacent to tables laid out for breakfast. So, presumably the pub is still doing B & B accommodation. Staff were friendly enough, but the overall feel of the place was of a restaurant utilised by an upper class clientele, with a couple of real ales and a cider. Not really a village local, unless the feel changes later in the evening when the diners have gone home.
