The Tailor's Chalk (JD Wetherspoon), Sidcup

A smaller than usual Wetherspoon's with a bar at the side and a raised drinking/eating area at the back. It has lots of wood which makes it seem very dark inside. A good selection of real ales.

This is a smaller than average Spoons with a rather less open plan layout than is usual. It is GBG (2014) listed. It gets the name from having once been a Tailor's shop and apparently was also once a Hogshead pub. There were ten pumps with one unused, the two usual GK beers and seven festival ales. I went for the Bateman's Hazelnut Brownie which was in very good condition.

This is a smaller than average Wetherspoons with lots of different small seating areas which make it feel even smaller than it really is, but I think that it is better for it. There are ten hand pumps on the bar with more than enough guest beers available and I was served a decent pint of Guinness by a polite barman. The usual Spoons food and drink promotions are advertised and there is a huge two piece JD Wetherspoons mirror on the wall behind the bar. This is probably one of the better examples of this chain’s pubs and I would pop back in if passing.

Quite a small 'spoons, with a short frontage which makes it quite difficult to spot from any distance. Funny layout inside, with little flights of steps up and down to various seating areas (including an odd bit at the back with a sloping ceiling like somebody's cramped loft conversion). 10 handpumps. Excellent pint of Herold Black Chalice from the International Beer festival, served full to the brim and a real bargain at £1.79.
