The Industry, Stonegravels, Chesterfield

A few years back this was a bit of a destination pub: Good Beer Guide listed and the landlord was a real ale enthusiast, but he moved on and the Chesterfield Arms next door went strong on real ales, so that now it's more like an estate pub. Still a classy building, and quite pleasant inside, but the choice of real ales is now limited to two, and the hand pumps are hugely outnumbered by the massed gleaming ranks of the lager and smooth fonts. Not just John Smiths extra smooth but John Smiths extra cold too. In fact, on my recent visit the Hobgoblin pump clip was turned around, leaving me with Hobson's Choice: the one remaining real ale. Fortunately the Timothy Taylor Golden Best was in good condition, and reasonably priced at £2.40, but it's hard to recommend this pub to real ale drinkers when there's a permanent beer exhibition just 20 metres away.
