The Pillar of Rock (JD Wetherspoon), Chesterfield

A decent spoons which is nice and light inside with a real sun trap outside. We called in for breakfast and this was fine. Along with the usual trio there were three guests on.

As I suspected this is a conversion of an original pub but apart from the fact it has a car park you would never know. Inside it's a long room with the bar on the left and lots of high tables and chairs. There are some lower tables and chairs at the rear that lead to a lower area and a patio. The bar has ten hand pumps which had two ciders, the JDW Trio Of Doom doubled, Salopian Shropshire Gold and Trumans Lazarus. The standard guest price here is £1.99 making it one of the dwindling number with the standard guest price under two quid. The problem is that there were only two guests but at least one of the ciders was the festival Pear Mania and at £2.45 was a good price. Despite being a much better building than many the poor beer choice let this one down and I made a hasty retreat.
