Auberge, Waterloo, SE1

I had a half of Camden Pale at £2.90. There's no real ale of course, but they had all kinds of fizzy keg stuff such as Leffe Blonde, Starpramen, Stella and Camden Helles. There was a cocktail menu on all the tables, but I didn't see a need to look at it. They do food of course - a standard burger is £14.95, and as an example a club sandwich is £9.95. It's not cheap of course, but that's Central London for you. This is a brightly lit bar just about underneath Waterloo East Station, and n a side street over the road from Waterloo Station. Decor is various retro French-themed advertising posters for French things such as Champagne, the Monte Carlo Grand Prix (Monaco I know, but near as dammit French) or Dubonnet. I wonder if they could produce a Dubonnet if HM dropped in for a swift one? This place is handy for the two Waterloo Stations but it's not really my sort of place.

More a bistro than a pub.  The upstairs is more of a restaurant, while the same menu is available in the downstairs bar; the latter feels more convivial.  The food we had was tapas-style, though there are other things on offer.  It was well cooked, enjoyable and not too expensive for the area. Still no real ale on, which lets it down slightly, so I settled for Punk IPA in bottles, predictably overpriced.  I wouldn’t be averse to coming back to eat as it’s convenient to both Waterloo Stations, but drinking is best done elsewhere.
