The Devils Dyke, Brighton

I'd walked 18 miles without passing a pub (if you exclude the Plough at Haresdean, which I couldnt get to as I was on the other side of the dual carriageway!) so I was gagging for food and a pint. This is a fine old spot. Walked in and was greated nicely, despite looking like a man on his last legs. Only drank Stella which was fine and needed for the cold refreshment. Checked in on FB whilst waiting for food and was surprised at the terrible reviews. Probably a place that crumbles under its own weight when really busy. Meal was expensive (would I like chunky chips for an extra £1 - what, instead of shitey chips?) and not that massive portions but I could have eaten road kill. Would go back for the location.

Large open plan pub at the top of the South Downs which has magnificant views over Southern England and can be reached by an exhillarating ride on an open top bus from Brighton.Although this is a fairly comfortable pub it was let down by the quality of it's real ale with the Summer Lightning being in poor form.Two other real ales from Harveys and Sharps were available.
