West End Bar, Redruth

I called into this pub on Murdoch Day on Saturday as I had heard there was a beer festival here. The pub does not look open from outside with it's large glass windows and no lights showing from inside, but it is open all day from 12 noon. It is a sports bar. I didn't think I would like it as loud music was playing, and a screen showing sports was alongside the bar over a stillage set up with the real ale, but we were there so gave it a try. It is a large room and the bar faces the door. There are darts boards and a table football in the room. A raised section by the window has a comfy sofa, so we went in and tried a couple of beers, and they were great. Bays Topsail was one of the best beers I have had in the past few weeks. We also had a Conwy beer from the stillage and a couple of Theakston Old Peculier beers from the bar. There are stairs leading to a room with 3 dartboards and 3 pool tables, and halfway up there is an outside seating area and garden area where I was told they hold Bar-b-q's. The lady in charge knows her real ales too, and for a sports bar, I was pleasantly surprised and would go again for decent real ale.
