The Station Master, Marylebone, NW1

Reasonable station bar. OK if you are waiting for a train.

A visit in mid May 2016 after a day at Wembley watching the FA Vase and Trophy Finals. After walking passed this bar earlier 3 of us return at around 7.30pm on a Sunday evening, I was immediately surprised by the size and layout of this place as we entered from the station side of the bar. 2 ales on, Breakspear bitter was one of 2 choices and was very decent. There was also a craft lager on keg which was decent though not cheap at almost a fiver a pint. The decor can be described as industrial with lots of steel, exposed pipes and brickwork. In the front window proudly sits an original Ron Haslam racing motorbike , the chatty doorman informed me that the owner of the bar has one in every other sports bar he has across London! Food features strongly with burgers and hot dogs getting the gourmet touch, at over £10.00 for a hot dog they better be good. We stayed for a couple of hours watching the Spanish cup final on TV, not so busy here but had a good feel to it. Sure is worth a visit as it’s a good alternative for the pub on the station that most people frequent.

Modern bar / restaurant, with furniture mostly high tables set aside for dining. Further small bar to the rear, with a separate door leading to the station (but not open when I visited) and a much larger one downstairs too. Various TV screens about the place, but no obvious sports theme to the decor. Background music at a sensible volume. Also has a couple of small metal tables out front. Two handpumps in each of the main bars, offering Brakspear Bitter and Marstons EPA (horribly overpriced at £4.30) when I called in. Only redeeming feature: less restrictive opening hours than the pub inside the station.

Not my type of bar, geared up for food, had 2 real ales on tap, both about 3.6%. the barman couldn't pour my first choice, no one had told him to pull it through first, so I had the other choice, Ringwood I think. He had trouble pulling half a pint through. When he finally managed it, must have wasted a whole pint doing it, it was served in one of the wine shaped glasses, usually used for continental beers. Now the big surprise, or maybe not, the price. £2.60 for a badly poured half pint, low % real ale. Glad I didn't risk a pint.
