The Rutland Arms, Southsea

Very smart and well-kept pub in residential area, with some well-kept local beers also. Nice garden at rear, but beware - the pub doesn't open on weekday lunchtimes.

A Victorian backstreet local corner pub, very welcoming, well described by MM, below. The single knock-through L-shaped bar has repro fireplaces, etched glass windows and small TV screens which are good enough to watch sport without being intrusive. Two ales on, Ubu and This England, both in very good condition. I'd be happy to come back, and it would make a good addition to a crawl.

This pub has now been taken over and is family run. They have certainly turned it around. Can't comment on the beer as I'm a lager drinker. Serves good, reasonably priced food, with a barbecue Sunday lunchtime (weather permitting). The garden has been done very well and has comfortable seating.
