Legh Arms, Sale

The Legh is a big old solid pub that is a bit of a landmark in the area. Clad completely in light brown tiles with a frieze, and entered up a series of steps. Sadly the former revolving entrance door I fondly recall has now gone, this used to confuse some of the more "tired" punters on the way out, and combined with the set of steps was the scene of more than one unfortunate tumble. Inside we still have the old Legh, a multi-roomed old style pub with two carpeted parlour style rooms to the front, one served by the bar, a larger room which has occasional music to the rear and a large separately accessed vault/games room to the right hand side. I didn't look out the back but years ago the pub had its own crown green bowling square. The two front bay windows have superbly preserved etched and stained glass lower sections with the LA initials entwined within. Linking the various drinking areas is a wide tiled corridor with feature tiled inserts in the floor. A couple of fruit machines are here, thoughtfully located so as not to bother the drinkers' conversations. Holts beers on the large island bar, served from two sets of three pumps, Mild, Bitter and IPA.

The Legh Arms is a large sturdy looking pub that is close to a very busy road junction. Once inside i went in a smartish lounge which had very plush carpets and very comfortable seating,i am not sure if there was a bar as i did'nt look. This pub is a Joseph Holt tied house and there were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Holts bitter and this was a very nice drink the other beer was Holts mild. I was quite comfortable and content having a drink in this pub and i would have happily stayed longer if not on a pub crawl. Pub visited 29/12/1990
