The Plough, Worcester

A nice regular Georgian frontaged corner pub that gives way to an irregular shape at the rear, where there is a patio area. The pub is in white render. The street frontage has a corner entrance and a range of large regular sash windows, with two dormers perched on top. The rear has been altered and has a dog-leg angle, with a gable end. It is a really nice building. The interior has two rooms, one either side of a central entrance passage that takes you past a flight of steps and has part of the serving bar facing you. These rooms are both white walled, with green paintwork, with white ceilings. The entrance and bar have wood floors (part tiled in entrance), the lounge a green carpet. Both rooms have grren seats and stools. The bar, where i went, has a small fireplace with grate. The walls have old maps and other pictures on, and there is a collection of old whiskey bottles. There was no TV that i saw and the background music was general and soft. The service was fine and there were a few locals in. Beer; usual tap stuff with a few continental lagers. On handpull there were; Salopian Oracle, Hobson's Bitter, Titanic Commemorative Ale, Beowulf Beorma and Weahteroak? Keystone Hops, served southern style. The Hobson's was decent. A proper pub; great choice, a friendly place - a must visit really. I shall head here when i next return to Worcester.

I've never failed to get into conversation in this place and my latest visit was no different. I hadn't been in for about a year but nothing had changed, which is the beauty of this place. Always some interesting beers to try, as well as some new ones on me they had the excellent Titanic Stout on this visit.

A traditional street corner pub very close to both the town centre and the cathedral. Unusually you're met with a small staircase on entering at the top of which is the small bar. To either side are two small and comfortable rooms with the loos and patio to the outside of the one to the right. Beers are listed on the blackboard which is kept up to date and six are available. Malvern Hills Black Pear and Hobsons Best are regulars with Beowulf Gold Works, Church End Pews Porter and Gravediggers and Purity Mad Goose on when we visited. There's also a fine selection of ciders including an excellent strawberry cider which at 6.9% flew down. The landlord was cheery and very knowledgable on the beers and all we tried were in great condition. A great town centre pub with a fine range of quality ales, along with The Dragon makes Worcester well worth a visit for top beer.
