The Shepherd & Shepherdess, Stanley

Old coaching inn, now handily placed for the open air museum (with the entrance just around the corner). It has been reconfigured inside so the grand entrance is no longer in use, so you now enter the first seating area from the car park side. The main counter is located in the centre and there is a dining area beyond, and all very traditional throughout. I found Doom Bar, Wainwright and the 'house' (brewed by Tetley, £3.60) from a total of seven handpumps on different parts of the counter.

Former Weston Hall. Beautiful mansion built in 1633 with a lot of history. Nice bar area with a huge open fire with original ovens in the back. 3 real ales + over 40 malt whiskies!! Nice looking Carvery served daily. Fishing lake in the grounds stocked with carp, tench, bream and roach. Very unusual and pleasant place. Free house too. Rated 3 stars because we haven't eaten there yet.

Handy pub after visiting the Beamish Museum.I didn't have any food,but the Black Sheep was cask if I remember correctly.
