The Button Factory, Hockley, Birmingham

Thought I would pay a visit, simply to tick off another "pub" in the area. Last time I was here, it was ram packed and the upstairs terrace does look lovely. Tuesday lunchtime and on entry I was instantly quizzed on what I wanted. Think they may have been hoping to sell some food, with the chef working the bar. No cask noticed and the usual selection of mainstream euro-fizz and craft. Estrella for £6. Not really for me.

Trendy sort of place with a mostly younger clientele, featuring a bar along the frontage (with such low lighting you almost need a torch) and a very slightly lighter dining area further back. For the better weather, a first-floor terrace can also be found at the front, with a more conventional patio beer garden off to one side. Sadly, the two handpumps are currently out of use, leaving some middling keg beers such as the pair from Battersea: the Session Pale (£5.40) and an Unfiltered Lager.
