The Farmers Arms, Ulverston

Initially wowed by the free hotdogs on the bar when we arrived at teatime on a Thursday evening. Gastro pub but bustling, not least with locals in the know who had come for a free scoff. Tirrel Borrowdale Bitter in fine condition - after a long wait to get served. Would appear those staff at the top bar are chained to their post and not allowed to help out below in busy periods. Found a table with a couple of nice gents engaging us in good chat. And then we found out dogs were not allowed inside and asked to sit outside, next to a huge firepit. So no great shakes.

The Farmers is probably the most central of Ulverston's pubs. With its location, it's a popular meeting point and apparently it has reached full capacity on a number of occasions since lockdown was eased. We later met the manager, who says they are currently prioritising diners. Bookings are being prioritised and table service is in operation. There were plenty of seats available inside on our Thursday afternoon visit. Although, tables overlooking Ulverston at the front of the pub were popular. The 3 ales on were Great Corby Best Bitter & Bowness Bay Swan Blonde & Tern IPA. Fairly average pub, despite its popularity.
