Young’s Bitter (£3.35 a pint), Young’s Special and Twickenham London Gold on. This is essentially a three room – or rather a three area – pub. The room as you enter just has a handful of barrels combined with tall stools, so nowhere there that I’m going to sit. The room on the right is rather nice though, with three quarter height fielded panelling on the walls, some very nice wooden tables coupled with normal chairs, as well as a marble fireplace. I’m sure that this room is normally reserved for diners judging by the little “bookings” terminal on a small table by the entrance, but as the kitchen was closed for some work to be undertaken this room was available for those just wanting a drink, like me. There are some old black and white photographs on the walls in here. There is a third room behind the servery with a raised area leading out to the garden, but there was some work going on in here as well so I couldn’t get a good look. This pub’s OK, but it does have a fair number of the Young’s makeover touches about it such as the large jars of nuts and the like in niches set in the bar back. I wouldn’t mind visiting again sometime, and the presence of a Twickenham ale is a definite plus.
