The Bull, Wolverhampton

Just over the road from the Crown this is another large pub that has been knocked into a single room. Entering from the Crown side is the original public bar area with a decent looking darts throw and four hand pumps displaying just Banks's mild and bitter. The bar curves round into the Saloon bar area which extends all the way down the side of the building. It had a fair crowd in on my Saturday afternoon visit. A blackboard announced that the three guest ales were Thwaite's Wainwright, Banks's Sunbeam and Brakspear Oxford Gold. I went for the mild (£2.44) which was the cheapest pint of the day and in excellent condition. This is a reasonable pub and worth a look if you travel to Codsall by bus but I wouldn't make the walk from the Station to come here.

A traditional village community pub which is a lovely mid 19th century grade II listed building that is owned by Banks’s (Marston’s). The interior is a long L shaped public bar with a small snug at the back of the building. There are entrances at either end of the main room which has a long L shaped wooden bar counter, in the right hand corner are leather bench seats, a dart board and two large flat screen TV’s. At the far end of the long part of the L shaped room (on the left of the building) are dining tables and a nice cast iron fire place with a ceiling mounted pull down projector screen above it. The small snug is entered by an archway at the back of the main room, this has old high backed wooden settles and domino/playing card tables, there are old paintings on the walls scattered throughout the pub. Out the back is a large beer garden with several picnic tables and a kid’s play area. Regular ales are Banks’s Bitter and Mild with two changing guest beers chosen from Marston’s portfolio such as Brakspear, Jennings, Ringwood or Wychwood. On this visit these were Jennings Cumberland Ale and Brakspear Oxford Gold. All ales were tried and found to be good enough. This is a very nice traditional local’s pub with a bit of character, a sufficient selection of four ales and a decent menu with the occasional cheap offer. The Station is my favourite Codsall pub but I try to visit this place every now and then for a change of scenery. It has a good turnout of regulars and always seems to be busy in the evenings, I will return.
