The Black Bull, Keighley

Unlike some of this tourist trap village, “The Black Bull” has a justified claim to a place in history. As proclaimed by a plaque on the outer wall, next to the front door, it was the favourite drinking haunt of Branwell Bronte, brother of the famous literary sisters. The interior walls are covered in portraits of the family, letters written by them and even a photograph of the actual chair which Branwell used to sit in. The pub is located at the top of Haworth’s steep Main Street, immediately adjacent to the Parsonage where the Brontes lived, so it must have been an easy stagger home for Branwell. A Bronte pilgrimage to Haworth wouldn’t be complete without a visit here, and it sells food and drink as well.
