The Star Inn, Brecon

Very well covered by others, below, this was a great find and well up to the mark. Food was excellent pub grub, well cooked to restaurant standard and good value. The staff were friendly and helpful, the other customers mostly decent people, and the atmosphere was convivial, in part because the large TV was switched off during the evening, the second of our two visits that day, the background music consisting of inoffensive 1970s rock music at a tolerable volume. The landlord in particular went out of his way to accommodate us. Ales on were Grey Trees Mosaic, Tudor American Pale Ale and Butty Bach, and there was a boxed cider on the bar. On tap were two from Tiny Rebel, Clwb Tropica and Rebel IPA, plus Nightjar British Stout, ciders from Aspall and Stoford, and 1985 Lager. Very convenient for the canal, and easily reachable by road, it’s well worth making the effort to come here.
