The Carpenters Arms, Swindon

A traditional roadside inn that has been opened out to form a single large bar. It’s now food led and is an Arkell’s pub. There is a spacious paved garden which includes a children’s play area, and a good sized car park. The décor is plain, not unpleasant, includes several old carpenter’s tools fixed to the walls, and overall it’s a relaxing atmosphere. There was no muzak this time. Food looked like good quality pub grub, though it was a bit pricier than it needed to be. Dogs are permitted in the bar but not the restaurant area, and there is a trail of painted paw prints on the ground to reinforce this to those who can’t read. Ales on were 3B and Wiltshire Gold, not in the best condition but still drinkable. A fairly decent place to stop for lunch.
