A relative haven of peace on Bank Holiday Monday, when the pre-racing crowds spill out onto the square in front of the three pubs. The Priory is a recent conversion to pub status, having been residents-only for many years. The room to the right on entering is the bar, of which the counter is set at 45 degrees to the room and squeezed somewhat uncomfortably into a corner. The staff were coping very well with the rush, dispensing various drinks including two local beers: Loweswater Gold and Land of Cartmel, the latter brewed a few yards away in Unsworths Yard. My half was reasonably priced at £1.70, considering the temptation to rip off once a year punters. Certainly one to consider, especially if the queues are three deep at the Royal Oak and the Kings Arms. Date of visit: 29th August 2016

This hotel is now under new management and after a complete refurbishment this hotel is now not only an outstanding place to stay but also to eat. Very extensive menu. Cosy snug with log fire, well stocked bar, our accomodation was stunning. Our stay exceeded our expectations by the pleasant and very helpful staff. Will definitely reccomend and will certainly return in the future.
