The Corn Stores, Reading

Late on Saturday afternoon a couple of Saturdays ago I visited the Corn Stores for the first time in over ten years. I used to work around the corner, but I didn’t really use this pub as I found it a little grubby and depressing. It is much cleaner now, but in my opinion it has the character of a bar rather than a proper pub. To the left of the entrance is a staircase that I didn’t climb but I did glean from a chalkboard on the wall that the upstairs is called the WP bar where food can be purchased. A singer was also advertised from 21:00 which was a little later than my visit. The main bar is at street level where there are some tables and chairs along with some sofa seating by the large front window. The bar is located in the right rear corner where there is a limited draught selection alongside San Miguel. There are also four hand pumps, one of which was unused leaving Fuller’s London Pride, Seafarers and ESB as the ale options. Outside the entrance is a covered table with some seating that was being used by a small group of smokers. This place is ok for a couple of beers if passing, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to revisit as I prefer a proper pub.

Strangely closed on a Saturday afternoon.
