Cannie Man, Easthampstead, Bracknell

A lively estate pub with one big L-shaped room and an outdoor terrace. It has a pool table and two dartboards one side, and a slightly raised area in the corner. The decor and furnishing could do with a refresh but the locals seemed happy enough. Refreshingly it keeps a couple of ales on - seems to be Doom bar plus one or two guests, on this visit Bath Gem with 6X and TEA to follow and condition was good. A fine selection of pump clips were on display, plus some CAMRA local mags, which is usually a good sign. I can't say I'd make a special trip but it's ok if you find yourself in the area.

We were in Bracknell to buy some floor tiles for the bathroom. What better excuse to try a new pub! As has been said before, the Cannie Man is situated next to a local supermarket on a housing estate. It doesn't look particularly inviting. But I knew it was in the Good Beer Guide. So, it was worth a try. The interior is as you'd expect. It's large and open-plan, with nothing particular to shout about. An outdoor terrace was nice enough on a sunny day. The ale choice was a little too mainstream for my liking - Sharp's Doom Bar, Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter & Otter Ale. The exception was Rebellion Smuggler. None of the ales had been poured through. So, there was a fair wait for mine. Nevertheless, all credit to the barmaid, she did offer to pour them through. Many would have simply said that they weren't available. Not as good as I'd have hoped. But probably an oasis for this part of Bracknell.
