The Union Inn, Rye

Friendly service (which is lacking in many Rye pubs), and beer straight from the barrel too. 9 November 2008 Since my first visit eighteen months ago this place has really improved. Good ales, and straight out of the barrel for the bonfire parade. Whilst I've not weaten there myself, I've seen other people being very happy with the food. This is a place to visit, and it's in a town with some seriously good pubs. 10 November 2007 improved beyond recocnigion... 26 May 2007 If they were as quick to serve you at the bar as the waitresses are to demand you should be eating, then they might be on to something. The locals aren't overly welcoming either. It's not THAT bad, it's just that there's a lot of pubs very close that are a lot better.

This is not the biggest pub in the world, but it still manages to get some nice tucked away areas in the different rooms/sections of the building. During my visit there were four hand pumps, two of which had Harvey's clips on and the other two were bare. None of these hand pumps were being used though as there were a couple of barrels of Harveys sitting on the bar. There was also a very limited selection of draught and a few of these were off. The seated area down a few steps to the right of the pub had an open fire that I'd imagine to be fantastic on those cold wintery nights. The barman was polite and I would go back if in the area.
