The Prince William, Whitwood, Castleford

This pub was built in 2003 at the entrance to the Freeport Shopping Village (now called Junction 32). The Xscape Leisure Complex is also just a few hundred yards further away. A "Winding Wheel" is the large pully wheel which stands upon a pit shaft operating the lift cage. This pub is close to where the old Glasshoughton Colliery used to be. Originally built as a Brewers Fayre chain pub, but was taken over in 2006 by The Harvester Pub chain. Serves good value food and caters for families.

Built in 1998 and called The Trading Post, this attractive family pub had a Canadian wood cabin look inside. Was forced to close in 2005 when gypsy travellers overtook the carpark! Eventually after their eviction, the pub failed to re-open! The pub has now been fully refurbished and re-opened as "The Whitwood Inn". The interior pine wood has been painted cream, the children's play area has been replaced with a pool table, generally, the place now looks more spacious. * This photo shows The Trading Post, just months before it closed.
