Refurbished and modernised small hotel, which somehow feels smaller on the inside than it looks from outside. Presumably the former function rooms have been spun off as Ye Arrow behind. Anyway there is one bar, with a more tasteful room off the side used mainly for dining. Only Doom Bar available on draught and food is generous, if a bit lacking in finesse.

Historic corner inn, with old signage on the façades proclaiming 'Wine and Spirit Vaults' and 'Family and Commercial Hotel'. Nowadays, though, the multi-room interior has been refurbished in a faux-traditional style that has the counter-intuitive effect of belying the past. Anyway, there is a mix of furniture inside, with about half the tables laid up for dining. There are two handpumps on one arm of the 'L'-shaped counter, both with Doom Bar clips (£3.90).
