The British Lion, Folkestone

I arrived at the British Lion around 17:00 on Monday afternoon last week, but unfortunately the pub is closed between 16:00 and 19:00 during the week. I decided to wander around a few other drinking establishments before returning at 19:30 to find the pub open with twenty or so other customers already in situ. To the right of the entrance were some tables set for dining and the bar to the left stretches towards the rear of the pub. There are hops hanging from the ceiling in the bar area and the walls are adorned with old photos and some books are available for reading. I didn’t spot any televisions and I do not recall there being any background music. The bar is stocked with standard draught and the five hand pumps were drawing Greene King’s Old Speckled Hen and Abbot Ale alongside Skinner’s Betty Stogs and Young’s London Gold (x2). Food is available from midday, when the pub opens, until 14:30 and from 19:00 until 21:00 except Tuesdays when the kitchen is closed in the evening. Out the back is an enclosed terrace garden that houses five café tables. I liked it in here and would have no hesitation in returning.
