The Earl of Chatham, Woolwich, SE18

The Earl of Chatham is a proper looking pub that it situated in the middle of Woolwich. Once inside i had a drink in the front room which had the bar facing on entry,the room is L shaped and extend to the rear left and this area is quite narrow,the seating is mainly normal table sand chairs. There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Doom Bar which was a decent enough drink,i failed to note the other beer. The pub was empty on my Saturday dinner visit. Pub visited 2/5/2015

This pub had London Pride (£1.78 a half) on, with a second handpump unused. There were menus on the tables during my Saturday afternoon visit – ambitiously called “The Earl’s Table” menu. But luckily the food didn’t come at nobility prices – sandwiches were around £3 and main course around £5 - £6. This looks like a town centre Victorian pub. In fact both of the entranceways had some nice late Victorian tiling on the walls, as did the carriageway to the right of the pub. In addition, the doorway on the right still had a pane of glass signed to the “bottle and jug” bar, and the bay windows at the front look attractive enough but clearly now have replacement plain glass in them. But other than those features there’s really little to recommend this pub. The lady behind the bar was friendly enough, but the Pride was just about “OK”. The interior has been totally gutted at some time, and is now furnished with some tall tables and stools, and some very basic corporate looking tables and chairs. It’s certainly worth having a good look at the tiling as you pass, but I can’t see me visiting this pub again.
