Modernised Stonegate outlet under its Social Pub & Kitchen brand, and with something of a mixed 'spoons / sports bar feel in the split-level arrangement of various seating and dining areas. A more interesting aspect is the colourful artwork on the end wall, a theme that is continued inside on the staircase down to the toilets. Although not immediately obvious, it does have three handpumps towards the back part of the elongated counter, with Landlord and London Pride (£5.30) being poured.

Jacobs Post was known as Hogshead up until late 2005 when its name changed after an extensive refurbishment. Due to the central location it is popular with shoppers during the daytime and in the evenings the younger population of the area take over. This is a very big pub with lots of different seating areas up and down various steps throughout the building. There is an area at the rear of the pub that houses a pool table and plasma screens are positioned throughout for showing Sky Sports. The Crystal Palace v Cardiff Carling Cup semi was being shown during my visit on Tuesday evening so the pub wasn’t that busy. Along with the standard draught there are five hand pumps on the bar that were drawing Courage Best (x2), Dark Star Meltdown, Bombardier and Old Rosie cider. The food is very cheap and there are numerous deals that one would expect to find in a Spoons. This is a place that I would avoid on Thursdays due to the weekly karaoke and at the weekend when the DJs are rolled out. I think that JPs is a perfectly acceptable place to watch the football, but I personally wouldn’t bother when there is no match being aired by Sky.
