The Jolly Waggoner, Stevenage

Another stay at Church Farm campsite, and on this occasion the pub is definitely better than the camping. Beers are now all from Woodforde's, their Wherry very good (NBSS 3.5, borderline 4) but a bit pricey for an ordinary bitter at £5. Service was very friendly and the pub interior has some good features, like an inglenook fireplace with not only a massive wooden beam but also an arch made of tiles laid back to back; come and critique the others for yourselves.

The pub has been well-described below. We stayed at the campsite on the farm here to break our journey to Kent, and popped into the pub for a beer. The selection is more mainstream than at the time of BF's visit, with no sign of any locally brewed beers: Adnams Broadside, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Fullers London Pride. In their favour, I have to say the beers we tried were in very good condition, and poured without the use of sparklers. It was pretty quiet at time of our visit, but they'd had a busy weekend (August Bank Holiday) and perhaps we didn't get a true picture of the normal service and atmosphere, both of which were rather understated.
