The Picture House (JD Wetherspoon), Colwyn Bay

Quite an interesting 'spoons conversion of a modest former cinema, with an unusual multi-level layout that retains some noteworthy features (best seen rather than described) but rather looses the sense of the original form. Apart from that, it is noteworthy for having a particularly dull selection from its eight handpumps, of which the Rev James (also the most expensive on offer at £2.65, but available with a meal deal) was the best on offer.

Considering the other pubs in the vicinity this place is a palace.

A terraced former cinema built in 1914, later becoming a bingo hall and finally a Spoon's in 1999. The lower frontage is dominated by a canopy and the upper by a central pilastered classical temple look (more Egyptian to me). The interior operates on several different levels and is elegantly decorated in green, blue and wood panel, with an ornate ceiling and a large fireplace. Paintings an the Egyptian theme continues within. It was very busy with a usual mixed clientele and the service was fine. There was no music and the usual silent news TVs were on. Bookcases are also present and a screen looking feature. It is quite small considering. Beer; usual taps with Abbot and Ruddles, along with at least 4 real ales - i had Bateman's Oatmeal, which was fine. A swift but worthy stop-off.

This small former cinema was built in 1914 and in the early 1980's was converted into a bingo hall.On entry you cannot fail to notice the segregated raised area directly in front of you and the more impressive and decorative higher tier beyond this. There is also a compact balcony(unseen from the lower areas)that overlooks all of this. Quite liked this one with the pub having an interesting beer selection and friendly bar people although thought it slightly let itself down with poor housekeeping.Worth a visit

Slightly smaller Wetherspoons in wonderfully ornate building. I might have been unlucky but the service was below par, otherwise as per usual.
