The Lord Caradoc (Lloyds No 1), Port Talbot

Lord Caradoc was a Welsh Warlord from around a thousand years ago but for all I know one of his descendants could have been present amongst the daytime brigade that made up the majority of the customer base on my Tuesday afternoon visit. It's small for a Spoons, open plan with the bar on the left and a raised area on the right. There is a paved patio at the rear. There are two banks of six hand pumps here which is quite impressive for a small Spoons. Both had the two GK beers then there was Doom Bore, Marston's Old Empire, Gower Gold, Tomos Watkin's OSB & Pecker Wrecker, Celt Experience Castell Coch, Evan Evans Warrior and Rhymney Export available soon. I wished I had followed one of the golden rules and gone for the Castell Coch which the majority of the locals seemed to be on. Instead I went for the Gower Gold which was cold and hazy but not a total disaster. The best thing was the price £1.79 and the friendly lady behind the bar assured me that it would have been £1.59 the day before on Cheapskate Monday. I quite liked this Spoons and I rather doubt there is anything better in Port Talbot, it's very much a drinker's one rather than a cheap restaurant and is GBG 2015 listed.

This is a Spoons chain pub/eatery, with patio area, which is in the GBG. The place is a former clothes shop and is in a dull brown brick. The place has a projecting central gabled entrance with flanking wings. The interior is an L-shaped room. It is typical spoons, as in foody tables, silent TVs, no music and info panels on the walls. The walls are in green, red, coffee and wood panel. The clientele was small and mixed. The service was sort of fine. We were told in a professional manner that Spoon's policy is that as we have teenagers, that we couldn't stay unless we either ate, or i didn't drink. Outraged, Mrs Soup and the Soupettes left. I stayed for a beer, a Kite Brewery's Summerbreeze, which was beginning to turn, so i simply left. Abbot, Ruddles and Rev James were on too. Never fell victim to this policy before - but that is the rule, so we left.
